Trinity Episcopal Church, Bend, Oregon, is seeking a rector. That might be you.
Grab your coffee, walk out of your office, and stroll through downtown Bend. After the public library, numerous restaurants and the historic Tower Theater, take a left and you will be on the banks of the Deschutes River in beautiful Drake Park.
Located in the high desert just east of the Cascades, Bend is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. A well-planned and aesthetically pleasing community, Bend offers unrivaled natural beauty, limitless opportunities for recreation, a tradition of civic engagement, and good schools. It has a large regional hospital, Oregon State University-Cascades (Central Oregon’s only four-year degree granting research institution), and Central Oregon Community College. It is full of good restaurants, bookstores, and musical and other artistic venues. Bend is a tourist destination and a magnet for families, retired people, and telecommuters.
Trinity is located in downtown Bend. Our growing membership reflects the growth of the area. Some 20 people participated in the most recent newcomers’ brunch. Many of our multi-talented parishioners are involved in one or more of our ministries and outreach programs. These include volunteering at Family Kitchen, which serves 20,000 free meals a month with the help of over 400 volunteers; helping Bend’s sister city, Condega, Nicaragua; and contributing to Kids Inspired Do Succeed (K.I.D.S.), which gives children living in difficult circumstances a chance to attend the diocesan camp in northeastern Oregon. We are a welcoming community that embraces the area’s growing cultural diversity. The parish is financially stable and benefits from help from financially skilled parishioners. As the largest parish in the Diocese of Eastern Oregon, Trinity participates actively in diocesan affairs.
We are looking for a collaborative, energetic, and innovative rector who can lead us in addressing the challenges we are now confronting. These include extending pastoral care, companionship, and practical services to our aging congregation; coordinating our outreach programs; and providing young families with the support and programs they need. We hope to attract more families with children. We appreciate preaching and theology that address the problems of the contemporary world through the deep insights of Scripture’s good news. Our adult education programs are built around that expectation.
The parish has an active liturgical life, including two Sunday services, normally Rite II, and a monthly family service. Under the leadership of our music director and our organist we have an excellent music program. During the COVID epidemic, our previous rector took care to keep us together by offering our services online. The vast majority have returned to in person worship, but others, as well as people looking for a church home, avail themselves of our digital outreach.
After your refreshing walk on the banks of the Deschutes River, and before you enter the historic red doors of Trinity Church, your eye is drawn toward the beautiful snow covered Cascade Mountains. You may well have found your new home. For more information, please see our Parish Profile online. We would be happy to enter into discernment with you. Please submit your application to our Transition Officer the Rev. Marilyn Roth: Marilyn.Roth60@gmail.com
